Making Disciples That Make a Difference

Staff Directory

Welcome to Erlanger United Methodist Church!

 Rev. Mark Shepherd, Pastor

Just to help you get to know us a little bit, here is some of our history.  I was born into a parsonage not too far from here on Dixie Highway.  My father was the pastor at   (what was then) Immanuel Methodist Church.  I am the last of 4 children.   My oldest sister, Mary John Dye, is a United Methodist pastor also, and is currently the District Superintendent of the Statesville District in the Western North Carolina Conference.  Then comes my sister Ruth Ann Shepherd, who is a neonatal physician by training and worked for many years at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital in eastern Kentucky.  Now she is a Director at the Department for Human Resources in Frankfort and is responsible for many health and nuturition programs across the state.  My brother, Phillip Shepherd, is an attorney and is currently a Circuit Judge in Franklin County.  My father, Jim Shepherd, is now retired and lives in Frankfort and pitches in to help at Frankfort First UMC, where I grew up and will always feel like my church home.

I went to Asbury College and majored in Speech Communications.  After that I went to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Emory University's Candler School of Theology.  I got my Master of Divinity degree there in 1984 and then came back to Kentucky to begin my professional ministry.  My first church was in Campbell County at Southgate UMC.  While I was there, I met and married Sande Turner.  Sande grew up in Campbell County (where her mother still lives).  She attended Campbell County High School and NKU where she studied business.  After we married, the two kids came along – Susanna, who is going to be a sophomore at U.K. Studying Equine Science – and Zech, who will be a senior at Dixie this coming fall.

After my 9 years at Southgate, we moved to Covington Trinity UMC for 3 years, then we moved to Columbia, KY for the next 6 years to serve at Columbia United Methodist Church.  Then in 2002 we moved to Louisville to serve the Jeffersontown UMC where we have spent the last 8 years.

Everywhere we have been God has blessed us and shown us more of his love and grace.  And we look forward to the coming time of ministry here.  You all have been so wonderful in your welcome.  We can't help but believe God will continue to be faithful and bless all of us as we minister together here again in Northern Kentucky.  Please keep us in your prayers, and thank you all so much for your kind and warm welcome to us.

                                                                                                                          See you in church!
                                                                                                                Pastor Mark

 Drew Williams, Pastor to Youth

I’d like to introduce myself…I’m Drew Williams the Youth Pastor here at Erlanger United Methodist Church!!

I am a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where I received my Masters of Divinity in May of 2008.  Asbury is a very special place forme for several reasons:  for the transformational experiences I had, the preparation I received for ministry, for the community and the relationships I built with other students and faculty, and the number one reason is because it is the place where I met my beautiful wife, Lee Ann.  Actually, there’s a really great story about the way we met and fell in love, but I’ll share that another day. ;)

Lee Ann and I married on December 15, 2007 and had our first baby girl, Abigail Louise (Abbie Lou) on December 3, 2008.  Abbie Lou is a beautiful, curious 9 month old redhead and growing like a weed everyday!  She is probably one of the greatest joys of my life!  Lee Ann is a wonderful mother and wife. She is a currently an commissioned Elder in the Kentucky Annual Conference.

I am a bit of a Geek or that’s at least what my wife says…meaning that I enjoy working with computers, etc.  I am also always up for an adventure in the great outdoors!  I love to play golf and listen to country and Christian praise and worship music.  I am an avid fan of Auburn, the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Vikings.  I try to take time to read a good book here and there.

I am pumped about meeting all the youth and their families and the rest of the Erlanger UMC family!  And, I can’t wait to grow in God’s grace alongside each of you as we gather together in worship and prayer; dig deep into God’s Word; build community through lots of fantastic trips, goofy games, and challenging discussions; and go out into the world to reach out, serve others and minister together in the name of Jesus Christ.
