Where Can I Serve?
Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Erlanger UMC is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Our members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as chores around the church to going on mission trips and supporting long term missionaries in other countries.
See our Missions page for a complet listing of these! We believe in getting involved, and we believe missions is the heart of Christian discipleship. There are many opportunities for you to make a difference.
Music & Drama
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music and drama ministries. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. Still others get involved in drama. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. Opportunities include:
1. CHANCEL CHOIR - They lift their voices each week to the Lord in worship, leading congregational singing and preforming special music. Practice is Wednesday nights at 7 p.m.
2. TONE CHYME MUSICAL GROUP - We are blessed with a set of Suzuki Tone Chimes that play and sound much like handbells. This group preforms several times each year. This is a lot of fun and a wonderful addition to our worship time. Practice is on Sunday mornings at 9:00 in the sanctuary.
3. REMINISCE - This is a men's group that loves to sing old favorites and some new ones too! These men practice "as needed" and also perform several times a year. This is a fun group to be in or listen to as well.
4. DRAMA - Often we incorporate skits, monologues and special presentatoins into our services both on Sunday mornings and in special seasonal worship times.
The usher team at Erlanger UMC fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Erlanger UMC. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in video and audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook page for additional church communication.
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Erlanger UMC is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s direction. Throughout the week, volunteers in our Prayer Warrior team pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. On the second Thursday of each month our prayer team gathers to pray for our church and its mission. The prayer chain is available to pray for requests any time you need it. Call the church office or drop us an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your concern and WE WILL PRAY FOR YOU!
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, our church holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity--ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons. Of course, children are also ALWAYS welcome in our worship services, but Children's Church is available for those who want to go! Volunteers in our children's program must be active in the church for 6 months prior to taking a volunteer role and pass a criminal background check to insure the safety of our children.
We have all kinds of things happening for children, and it's a lot of fun to learn about Jesus here at EUMC. Each month there is a special children's activity such as a trip to the Newport Aquarium or the Butterfly Exibit. Each summer we have Vacation Bible School, and there are always things like egg hunts at Easter, Christmas parties, back to school promotions and things that make kids feel right at home. Of course, each week we have Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. and Children's Church during the morning worship as well. Volunteers in our children's program must be active in the church for 6 months prior to taking a volunteer role and pass a criminal background check to insure the safety of our children.
Each week our youth group gathers on Sunday afternoons (4:45 p.m.) to do Bible Study, crafts, games and all kinds of activities. They are always involved in doing things for others and learning how to make Christ the center of their lives. There is always something going on - retreats, concert trips, mission projects, fund raisers, and so much more. And of course, each week there is a Sunday School class for our youth. Volunteers in our youth program must be active in the church for 6 months prior to taking a volunteer role and pass a criminal background check to insure the safety of our youth.
